TPS - Lean Six Sigma

"A customer is the most important visitor on our premises; he is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so."

About Myself

I was born in Tripoli, Lebanon in 1959. My father, who I dedicate my portion of this book to, was great man, excellent father, an educator and politician, and he wanted his children to be raised with good morals and values and receive a higher education. We lived a happy and prosperous life. My father died at the age of 36. Our lives were then changed forever. My wonderful mother never got married and dedicated her life to her children. I am the oldest among 4 siblings- a brother and three sisters and at 13 years old, it was my responsibility to take care of my family. I always remembered my father’s wishes for me to pursue a higher education and realized how hard life is without an education. I promised myself and was determined to never give up on my dream of furthering my studies and acquiring a good education. Two years after my father’s death, I met a man, Salam Izzedine and he took me under his wing and treated me just like his own son. When I was 15 years old, the Lebanese civil war began and it was difficult to attend school and study but I continued my education at a French private school and one of my dreams was to eventually attend University. This dream became reality when I enrolled at the Lebanese University. During the war, I witnessed many people suffering and I wished that I could alleviate all their pain and make them happy. I promised myself then, to do my best to assist people and be a peaceful and loving person. At the age of 25, I was granted a full scholarship to come to the USA to study from the Hariri Foundation, which was founded by the former Lebanese Prime Minister, Rafik Hariri, who was unfortunately assassinated on February 14, 2005. It was a sad day for me. I looked to him as a father who assisted me to begin obtaining my educational goals and helped me become, who I am today.

I came to the USA in August 1985. I studied Material-Ceramic Engineering at Alfred University in Alfred, New York, where I received my Bachelor of Science degree. After graduation, I married and had a son. I worked at Becton Dickinson for three years and decided to go back to University. I received my Masters of Science degree in Applied Statistics from the Rochester Institute of Technology and completed a 2 year program in one year.

I have over 17 years of Quality and Statistics experience in a variety of industries. I have held many positions in engineering and management positions at many reputable companies such Eastman Kodak Company, Heidelberg, Xerox Corporation, and Corning Corporation.

In July 2002, I started my own Consulting and Training Company, Transformation Partners Company, in which, I am the President. As a Consultant, I have coached hundreds of companies to improve the quality of their product and services with Six Sigma deployment and philosophy and these companies have documented millions of dollars in savings.

I have a passion to share knowledge and my philosophy with others and I am an Instructor, Coach and trainer. I currently teach Lean Six Sigma’s Concepts, Tools and Philosophy at three colleges - at Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York, at Erie Community College in Buffalo, New York and at Bucks County Community College in New Town, Pennsylvania. I have trained more than a thousand Engineers, Managers, Directors and Scientists, and mentored and trained many Black Belts, Green and White Belts and Champions. I am a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt and I have also mentored many professionals to become Master Black Belts.

I have been active in many professional societies such as the American Society for Quality and Society of Reliability Engineers. I was a member of the Advisory Council for Rochester Institute of Technology’s Center for Quality and Applied Statistics. I am one of the originators and served as President of the Society of Reliability Engineers, Rochester Chapter. Also, I served as a member of and President of the Rochester Alliance Business Group. I have given many presentations on Lean Six Sigma at workshops, conferences, summits, forums and seminars.
